International Master of Science in Communications Engineering and Data Science (CoDaS)

CoDaS is a joint M.Sc. program offered by three European universities: Aalto University, Grenoble Institute of Technology (Grenoble INP - UGA), and Técnico Lisboa (University Lisboa). Each Partner University will recruit students for the 1st year of the program according to their quota, following their usual admission processes. Then, the students will go for the 2nd year of the program to another Partner University. For instance, the student that enrolls in Grenoble INP - UGA for M1, will go either to Aalto University or Técnico Lisboa for M2.

This Programme covers a range of timely industry topics relevant to modern fields of engineering consisting of competences from electrical engineering, automation, programming, communications, data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, network security, and Internet of Things.
Students will acquire expertise in a range of techniques covering the broad areas of mathematics, modelling and analysis of signals and systems, data science, artificial intelligence, security, networks and distributed systems.

During their studies, students will also acquire expertise in other areas, such as project planning and management, teamwork and coordination, entrepreneurship, critical thinking and sustainability. The Program will empower students to solve industry-relevant problems employing cutting-edge tools of artificial intelligence, automation and control theory, data analytics, network security, wireless systems, distributed systems and signal processing. Students will be trained in the design and analysis of machine learning models and communication systems, advance their knowledge in the broad field of computer networks and cybersecurity, and gain professional experience through tailored industry-relevant projects and entrepreneurship trainings.

Eligibility and requirements

CoDaS is a highly competitive academic program, with selection on the basis of prior academic and/or scientific achievement as documented by academic transcripts, a motivational essay, letters of recommendation and standardized test scores.

Degree requirements

For admission to the full two year program you must have a Bachelor's Degree of at least 3 years duration (equivalent to the European Licence). Students should have a B.Sc. in a technical area in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical and computer engineering. Good mathematical background is required as many course in Data Science and AI rely on mathematics.

Language requirements

Students are required to provide evidence of Competence in English, equivalent to a C1 CEFR level.

IELTS Academic Minimum score requirements: overall score 6.5, and writing score 5.5. IELTS test results are valid for two years from the date of the test

TOEFL Minimum score requirements:

  • TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test): 92, and 22 for Writing or
  • TOEFL PDT (Paper-delivered Test): Reading 22, Listening 22, and Writing 24

TOEFL test results are valid for two years from the date of the test.

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE A) Minimum score: Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE A): 62, and 54 for Writing Valid for two years from the date of the test.

Cambridge C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency Minimum score requirements

  • C1 Advanced (formerly known as Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, CAE): A,B or C
  • C2 Proficiency (formerly known as Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English, CPE): A,B,C or Level C1

No other Cambridge language tests than C1 Advanced (or CAE) and C2 Proficiency (or CPE) are accepted.

Instructions for completing the online application process.

Application requires uploading some documents:

  • Copy of your most recent diplomas, with a translation of the diploma in French or English.
  • Certified copy of the final grades obtained for all University Studies.
  • Copy of grades obtained so far for this academic year, and date by which you can provide your final grades (final transcripts will be needed for admission).
  • Recommendation letter(s). You can submit up to three recommendation letters (print on letter head, and submit using the on-line tool (uploads)
  • Certification of competence in English.

Optional documents:

  • Official description of the grading system in use at your current university
  • Description of your most recent academic program, including number hours, credits and subjects studied for each class.

Admission Process

The admissions committee will meet at the end of the application period. An admission committee made up of Faculty members from Aalto University, Grenoble Institute of Technology (Grenoble INP), and Técnico Lisboa (University Lisboa) will meet at the end of May (date to be announced). The results will be given after this Admission Committee.
The decision taken on your admission status will be posted on tour personal space (admitted/not admitted).

In case of admission, our registrar's office will be posting on your personal space your official admission letter. if you need an original copy you have to ask for it.

In case of refusal, the means and terms for appeals are detailed below:

Any appeal must be made in writing and addressed to the President of the Academic Accreditation Comittee (CVA) within two months from the publication of the results (administrative appeal). Within the same time period, the applicant also has the possibility of bringing proceedings before the Administrative Court of Grenoble.

Etudes en France

Applying through Etudes en France is necessary to obtain a Visa, and you will have to enter your CEF number during the application process.
